Clear Bag Policy

As part of our ongoing commitment to the safety and security of our students, staff, and visitors, we are introducing a new clear bag protocol for public events held at Mesa Public Schools school campuses. This protocol will be effective starting August 21, 2023 and will be applicable at public gatherings such as athletic events, performing arts concerts, and school carnivals/festivals.

Approved Bags: Attendees are encouraged to bring only clear bags made of transparent PVC, plastic, or vinyl material and small clutches of any material that are no larger than 4.5 x 6.5 inches. These bags will allow our security personnel to quickly inspect contents, minimizing delays during entry. One-gallon clear plastic freezer bags are also permitted.

Bag Dimensions: Clear bags should not exceed 12 inches height, 6 inches width, and 12 inches depth. Clutches must not exceed 4.5 x 6.5 inches in size.

Non-Approved Bags: For the safety and comfort of all attendees, the following items are prohibited: backpacks, large purses, diaper bags, binoculars case, mesh bags, fanny packs, camera bags, oversized tote bags, tinted colored or pattern plastic bags, and drawstring bags.

Medical bags are permitted but subject to an inspection. Diaper bags are not considered medical bags.

Student Council Sponsored Kona Ice Wed, Sep 6th and Sep 20th

Kona Ice will be selling shaved ice at lunch on Wednesday, September 6th during lunch.  Students are able to consume Kona Ice in the lunch area only. Sales will shut down for the last 5 minutes of lunch to allow for students to eat their ice before going to class.

Poston School Improvement Advisory Council (First meeting 9/19)

SIAC is a small group made up of administration, parents, students, and staff members.  It is an opportunity to have a voice in the decision-making process on some of the budgeting and school programs.

It is advisory in nature. It is a great place for the school to collaborate with those most affected by the decisions and gather various points of view, hence the name, advisory council.

When you are requesting membership you agree to the best of your ability to:

1. Attend all meetings (usually 6 to 7 annually). These are usually held on Tuesdays and start at 4:15, (the time is early so student members have access directly after school).  They are planned to last approximately one hour. The first meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 4:15 in the Media Center.

2. Commit for 2 years: If you have a student/s enrolled for the 2 year period.  This helps with continuity. If you have an 8th grade student and will not have a student in 24-25, a 1 yr commitment is fine.

3. Be a representative for other stakeholders (parents/guardians, students, local businesses, etc.)  in your community and bring up concerns and ideas.

4. If we have more parents/guardians request membership than our bylaws allow, we will contact you about next steps.

Delivery and drop off of items for students.

We recognize that there may be times when parents need to drop off items for students.  We ask that parents plan on dropping off the item, labeling it, and logging it in on the log form.  Students are responsible for checking with the front office to pick up their item.  Due to the many tasks that the front office must do in a given day, they are not available to call students out immediately to pick up their items.

We also ask that items being dropped off be limited to school essential items, money for lunch, or lunch for your student.  Please refrain from having food delivered by a delivery service, items to celebrate birthdays or other special occasions, or food for multiple students.  We are unable to provide delivery of such items.  Please refer to the student handbook found in the PAWS planner for more information regarding student deliveries.
